San Diego Comic-Con 2024

The Consortium assembles!

For the Mint in Box Press team, San Diego Comic-Con 2024 was all about shenanigans, spending time together and working to solidify our vision for the future. As a newer independent imprint, MIB Press not only wants to connect its authors, artists and editors to readers and potential future team members, but also to connect our creators to each other. We are a team, after all, and so working together to determine the best path forward is imperative for a happy, healthy consortium.

Author Greg Burke came all the way from Australia to exhibit in the Small Press area of SDCC, which he’s been doing for many years. He brought with him a new novella, Fractured Faith, as well as other novels in his catalog. He also brought us a lot of Australian candy and a bottle of Starboard whiskey, which will come in handy on long nights spent writing, editing, and social-media-ing.

As for the rest of us, we weren’t exhibiting this year, so we entertained ourselves with cosplay, networking and other shenanigans, as creative-types are wont to do.

We are in talks to recruit exciting new talent, like abstract artist Patricia McGee and children’s book author/artist and cosplayer/content producer, Aubrey Falk (shown here as Alastor from Harbin Hotel).

After the Con ended on Saturday, we hosted an after party for the Mint in Box Press team, where both the whiskey and the creativity flowed. (Forgive the blurriness; we blame the whiskey).

So, what’s up next for our intrepid creators, you may ask?

We have many things in the works:

A new sci-fi novel by Cordell, Falk, titled Omni One, a potentially true story about the struggle for survival in a chaotic universe, the power of perseverance over unimaginable odds, and a game of tag.

The third novel in Selena Jones’ Doomsday Trilogy, Doomsday Changes Everything, will be released at the end of the year. This time we find our Norm-turned-Villain, Elliot Vane, fighting against the tenacity of family bonds in a bid to save the world from a Villain gone mad.

We also are publishing our first short story collection, which is an exercise in self-awareness. Four of our authors participated in the NYC Midnight Short Story competition, where the challenge was to write four separate short stories with randomly-assigned genres, plot devices and characters. With each round, the time frame to submit grew shorter and the word count decreased. In this collection, we’ve compiled our stories, sixteen in total, some of the judges’ feedback, and our own insights on the writing process.

We are excited to be bringing these stories to life and much more in the coming months! Please follow us and continue to check back for updates, releases, interviews, reviews and other musings from the creative team at Mint in Box Press.
